Robots that collaborate with people without a protective device: collaborative robotics is the future of the production industry. The fields of application of human-robot-collaborations (HRC) are manifold: For example, in the packaging of goods or in the assembly of motors, robots powerfully support people. For this picture to become reality, however, the safety certification of such systems is essential. This is currently very expensive and requires a large number of manual measurements.

On main aim of this project is to develop a software prototype to facilitate safety assessment according to robot safety standards. The software is designed to simulate the work environment and processes, identifying and assessing potential threats. The created software tool should be flexible and easy to use. Above all, however, the safety certification of HRC systems should become cheaper, so that it will be easier for SMEs to automate their production.

Tactile sensors are already the main component of HRC systems. Our goal in the project consortium is to develop methods to produce application-specific sensors. They are equipped with innovative controls, such as capacitive sensors or status lights. Based on the afore mentioned technologies, training modules for the evaluation of HRC systems are developed.

According to market analyzes, collaborative robotics is expected to be a driving force in the robotics market. The project results are of particular interest to SMEs, as the planning and certification of HRC systems for lot size 1 applications are still too expensive and time consuming.
