Micro stereolithography (µSLA) is an additive fabrication process that allows the fabrication of small parts from a computer-aided design (CAD) file. The CAD-file describes the geometry and size of the parts to be built. The manufacturing of 3D objects by stereolithography is based on the spatially controlled solidification of a liquid resin by photo-polymerization. Using a computer-controlled laser beam a pattern is illuminated on the interface of a resin and a polished glass (top-down approach). As a result of this, the resin in the pattern is solidified through the layer, causing it to adhere to a support platform. After photo-polymerization of the first layer, the platform is moved away from the polished glass interface and the built volume fills with liquid resin. A pattern is then cured in this second layer. The height of each layer is set independently to the needs of the printer. These steps are repeated to construct a solid, three-dimensional object. After removing and washing-off excess resin, a fabricated structure is obtained.

PROFACTOR is interested in the development of methods for micro 3D-printing for microfluidic applications. Therefore material developments as well as design concepts are of interest.
