ERF Workshop 2015

Cognitive Robotics in future manufacturing scenarios

An European Robotic Forum Workshop: March 12, 2015, Vienna, Austria

The future manufacturing and assembly lines will be influenced by today’s research topics in the domain of robotics and automation. Keywords like the robotic co-worker, human-in-the-loop models, human-friendly robotics, etc. are omnipresent. Thus, future robotic systems need to reach a level of cognition that will allow them to understand and effectively operate specifically in industrial environments. Those systems will interact with humans in close proximity, and adapt their actions to an ever growing range of situations. Realizing cognitive robotics and systems (CRS) will therefor require advances along multiple challenges, form sensing through learning to acting.

This workshop aims to stimulate the discussion in the application area of manufacturing by means of cognitive robotics concepts and technologies focusing on the following topics (but not limited to):

  • Novel cognitive architectures
  • Novel concepts in Human-Robot interaction
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning
  • cooperative decision-making
  • planning and scheduling
  • reasoning under uncertainty,
  • machine learning,
  • symbol grounding,
  • cognitive vision,
  • perception,
  • applications

We will bring together researchers from relevant disciplines to exchange ideas and results towards the goal of boosting cognitive robotics principles in the factory of the future.
