Micro-Machining
Micro-machining is the topic of the EU “Launch Micro” project. The project achieved advances in the development of machine designs for micro-machining. PROFACTOR investigated the rigidity of micro-milling machine constructions. The aim was to reduce component weight while at the same time improving rigidity. This vastly improves the precision of the milling machine while at the same time it increases machine dynamics for moving parts (axis carriages).
More precise and faster thanks to finite element calculations
Thanks to finite element calculations, PROFACTOR was able to reduce the weight of the X and Y carriages by 30 percent while at the same time increasing rigidity by 5 percent. This means that the machine moves about 20 percent faster than previously while achieving better milling precision. Vibration analysis of the milling machine also led to tangible proposals to reducing vibrations.
