Processing materials that are difficult to machine

Tool Steel Development

PROFACTOR develops processing strategies for hard-to-machine materials for tool-steel producers. Selection of milling tools, feeding strategies, and cutting parameters are fine-tuned to reflect the material in question.  Steel producers pass on the know-how they gather to their customers. This enables them to achieve maximum milling volumes over time right from the outset.

Titanium Processing

Titanium milling for the aerospace industry and in racing has become far more economical thanks to the development of new cutting materials. This enables faster feeding, delivery and cutting speeds. To allow this to happen PROFACTOR analyses the milling process using high-speed infrared cameras (image integration time 0.000001 seconds), and by measuring the cutting force and tool lifetime.

Machining of Magnesium

Within the scope of the ECOHYB EU (CRAFT) project, PROFACTOR has designed an environmentally friendly, economical process for machining magnesium / aluminium and magnesium / sintered metal composites with minimum-quantity lubrication. The machining parameters returned by this allows PROFACTOR to optimise machining tools, cooling lubricants and processing machines for serial processing.
